Welcome to the Modeling Science Parody blog! This is where we go to improve the use of science parodies (there are thousands!) in the classroom by integrating them into Model Based Instruction. It was pointed out to me that I began writing science parodies when I was 12 years old in Junior High School when a friend of mine and I wanted to sing to our science teacher, “Puma puma puma puma puma obsidian, hyalite limestone, hyalite limestone” to Boy George’s “Karma Chameleon” in the 80s! Things have come a long way since then and I seemed to have hit a convergence of my talents for physics and music which I hope I can share to help diversify your science classroom. A few things:
— these parodies and the activities associated with them are very effective at revealing student’s conceptions and misconceptions about the science concepts they convey.
— you need to use We Video (or a similar collaborating video program) in order to maximize the learning experience for your students as they need to do the science.
— you are welcome to use these parodies and activity guides for free, I am doing this for educational purposes (although there might be ads to help pay for the website 🙂
I’ll post the first one and the story behind it soon — until then thank you for visiting!
